Membership Policies and Agreement

What is HelpNet?

HelpNet is a cooperative effort of Maine grassroots, community-based organizations and individuals who work with them. We all have questions and problems as we use computers, both off-line and on the Internet. Through HelpNet we are pooling our skills and resources to get answers to our common questions, so we can make technology work for us.

Who Can Be a Member?

HelpNet membership is open to grassroots, community-based, and non-profit organizations, and to individuals who work with these groups in eastern and central Maine. Individuals and organizations from outside this area are also welcome to join, provided that they have a connection to and share share a community of interest with the eastern and central Maine members.

The Basic Obligations of Membership

Open participation. The most important membership obligation is an agreement with HelpNet's mission of building and sustaining a collaborative, self-governing for the mutual benefit of members and the constituencies they serve. Members must be willing to participate openly, honestly and collaboratively in HelpNet programs, services and governance.

Commercial use. HelpNet is not to be used for solicitation, advertisement, or promotion of commercial services or products, or for any other commercial purpose, without the express permission of the HelpNet membership.

Member conduct. Members may not use HelpNet for any illegal purpose, or to harass other members or interfere with their use of the network.

Membership Dues

HelpNet membership dues are $25/year for organizational members with annual budgets of less than $50,000, $50/year for organizational members with annual budgets of $50,000 or more, and $5/year for individual members. (The membership year begins on January 1.) Dues may be paid in cash, or members may meet their dues obligation by providing an equivalent value of service to HelpNet. No one will be denied membership because of inability to pay.

HelpNet Services
